Thankful Anyway Thursday

It's easy to be thankful for the good stuff, can you be thankful for the not so good?
(as serious or light-hearted as you like)

I am thankful anyway...........

c'mon Mon, you can do it....

... because it means my daughter has a voice and feels safe to use it.
... because as she vocalises unhappiness, I'm able to know something is wrong.
... because a struggle is a chance for me to look further into myself.
... for a chance to practice patience, Love, acceptance.
... for the chance to rediscover again and again my own strength.

Let me know (comment) if you've done your own Thankful Anyway and I'll add your link to this post. Grab the button up the top (right click & Save As) and a link back is always nice.

  1. Amen to that. Or something.

  2. Oh yeah.....what EW said...

  3. i love your thankful anyways for this post. They were perfect :)

  4. (*laughing)
Your list is fabulous and yes, little wildflower is discovering ways she can express herself and her growing personality.
I remember repeating to myself over & over again "she's just a baby - she's not at all trying to drive me insane...she's just a baby."

  5. I'm onboard with this one...

Only, I add the "but, Moooom!!"

I try to ask him to just tell me what he proposes in a way that I can understand him better. Many times I will then say, 'Okay, that sounds valid to me, let's do that. And, maybe next time you can remember to just speak to me without using those tones and we can just skip all of this part.'

Occasionally, it works. Makes it completely worth it!

  6. I think it's a great way to look at whining. It can drive anyone crazy depending on the day. I like the idea of having more and more times to find that inner strength and wisdom. Well done, Mon. I did a Thankful Anyway Thursday post today too!

  7. There, you managed to see the silver lining, that in itself is something to be thankful for!

  8. I feeeeeeeeel you. The crying I can handle. The whiiiiiiining. Not so much. One time I actually said to him "I love you, I care about what you have to say, but I CANNOT handle the whining right now, so don't be surprised if I ignore you." At least I was being honest, right?

But yes, everything you said. Saying those things to myself is the only way I prevent myself from imploding/exploding.

  9. Oh my, never thought of whining as something to be thankful My youngest can be such a whiner's like nails on a chalk board. It's funny though...when she starts whining, I calmly say, "I don't understand what you are saying, I don't speak whine." Then she starts speaking really really slow and in a low voice.

  10. Great Post! ;) I was a little bit of a whiner growing up, usually because I was in trouble for doing something bad, or tormenting my sister... Most notably for that one time I was locked in my bedroom after turning the water hose on my mom after she "lipped" off to me! hahah ;)

  11. chuckle
I look forward to the day she's old enough for me to request her non-whine voice. Caroline, I love the 'I don't speak whine'. Till then, thankful anyways and like Lisa says, trying not to implode/explode. :)

  12. lol, "The Scream" picture is perfect after all the whine, whine, whine. Like, absolutely perfect!
I am going to be thankful today even though the toddler whine, whine, whines because, like you, I realize he knows he's safe to express his feelings with me.

  13. i'll try to remember this when we reach the peak and then again when she's on the floor spineless and heavy!

i will remember that my children have voices, which it seems they are going to need!
